    Huchuy Qosqo Trek

    Huchuy Qosqo Trek

The Huchuy Qosqo Trek is a short trek that is family-friendly and ideal for those in moderate physical shape. Beware, however, of the steep descents towards the end of the trek.

Huchuy Qosqo boasts numerous structures including an 800-meter long irrigation channel that watered the agricultural terraces. The height of its location allows fantastic views of the Sacred Valley and snowy peaks of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.

Highlights of the Huchuy Qosqo Trek:

    • Exotic bird sightings
    • Sharing a steaming cup of mate de coca with one of the local families in a campsite; learning the Andean way of life
    • Snow-capped Urubamba mountain range
    • Visiting a native community to observe the Inca weaving process
    • Experiencing the rich and abundant Andean biodiversity

    Notable Stops/Destinations

Ollantaytambo – location of fortress ruins, intriguing stone temples, and a quaint old town with cobble streets and adobe buildings attesting to the existence of a long-gone Inca civilization

Aguas Calientes – common stopover for travelers to Machu Picchu as it is the gateway to the world-famous ruins; it brims with eateries serving local cuisine and is lined with artisanal handicrafts shops; the best feature is the hot springs where guests can take a therapeutic dip

Huchuy Qosqo – translated as “Little Cusco” and set above the Sacred Valley at 3,650 masl; believed to have been built by the Inca Emperor Ubiracochia as a military administrative and agricultural center
